Day of Surgery:
- Wash your face the morning of surgery and then do not put anything on your face. No makeup, lotions or aftershave. NO PERFUME OR COLOGNE. Contact lenses should be removed prior to coming to the Center.
- Dress comfortably, wear short sleeves with a wide neck or button down. You will not change into a gown for surgery and we will need access for the monitors and IV. Wear closed toed shoes as these allow walking to be safer following anesthesia. No sandals or flip flops.
- Leave all jewelry and valuables at home. This includes watches and Fit-Bits. Wedding band/medic alert bracelets are permitted. DO NOT BRING YOUR POSTOP KIT WITH YOUR DROPS AND/OR FOLDER TO THE SURGERY CENTER. You will not need those until you get home. If you were given postop sunglasses, bring them with you the day of surgery and leave them with your driver, as you will not need them until after surgery when you get in the care to go home.
- Bring your insurance cards and driver’s license/photo ID and your financial responsibility for the procedure.
- Please be aware that, at times, someone who arrives after you may be taken in before you. This could be for a variety of reasons, including availability of the physician, equipment or special rooms.
- We request only one visitor to accompany you to maximize the comfort of everyone waiting. If they choose to leave, they must remain within 5-10 minutes of the facility and have a cell phone readily available to answer when we call.
- Children should be under the constant supervision of their parents while at our Center. We ask that you keep your children close to you and keep them quiet for the courtesy of others.
- Female patients 55 and younger are requested to NOT use the restroom in the lobby area without notifying one of our staff. A specimen may be needed.
- OOSC is a smoke free facility for our patients and their families. There is a designated smoking area outside the facility on the north side of the building.
- Due to the need to keep our clinical areas cool, it is often difficult to arrive at a comfortable temperature for all of our visitors. Our waiting room tends to be cool. Please bring a jacket or sweater with you to remain comfortable during your wait in our waiting room.
- For your own safety and protection, you will not be allowed to drive a motor vehicle following your procedure. Please make arrangements to have someone bring you and escort you home from the Center. If taking public transportation home, YOU MUST HAVE a legal adult to take responsibility for you.
- Please plan to be at our facility for three to four hours.
PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT SERVICE ANIMALS WILL NOT BE ADMITTED TO CLINICAL AREAS
After Your Procedure:
No visitors will be allowed without the permission of the patient. Following your procedure, you will be moved to our fully-equipped recovery area. There, our nursing staff will closely monitor you. You will be offered something to drink and receive any medication ordered by your surgeon. The length of stay varies, and most patients are discharged within 15 minutes.
After Your Return Home:
Your physician will provide post-procedure instructions regarding diet, rest and medication. The Center will provide you with a written summary of these instructions.
Plan to have someone stay with you for 24 hours following your procedure.
Since it is normal to feel drowsy after receiving anesthetic medications, we also recommend that you postpone the following activities for 24 hours after discharge:
- Driving and operating equipment
- Signing important papers
- Making significant decisions
- Drinking alcoholic beverages
If you are having a Yag Laser procedure:
You may eat and take your medications as usual. Your eye may be dilated for the procedure, and the vision may be blurred for several hours. You may wish to have someone accompany you to drive you home, but this is optional.
